"Delivering a comprehensive educational experience for underprivileged children..."

The Stone Flower Foundation, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2005 following a cultural exchange between an American youth soccer team from Seattle, Washington and a Brazilian youth soccer team from Sao Roque, Brazil to respond to the glaring inadequacies of the public school education of socioeconomically disadvantaged youth in Brazil.

The Quero Ser (“I Want to Be”) Institute, a supplemental public school facility, opened its doors to 80 Brazilian children between the ages of 7 and 13 years of age, July 2006. The goal of the Institute is to counter the inadequate 4 hours of daily public school education available to lower class children in overcrowded classrooms. This limited public elementary school education available to most of the children of Brazil, results in a perpetuation of illiteracy and feeds a continuation the poverty cycle in Brazil. The Institute offers these children an additional 4 hours per day of educational support, technical training, nutrition, health care, athletics and exposure to cultural offerings.

The Stone Flower Foundation has a unique partnership with the Quero Ser Institute and the Institute’s Brazilian Board of Directors. Our foundation offers financial support and collaborative administrative stewardship. Collectively our hope is to ultimately create a better future with opportunities for the children of Brazil.
